THE PPW VISION

Every person will have the information needed in an emergency to save lives, prevent injury, mitigate property loss, and minimize the time needed to return to a normal life.

The Partnership for Public Warning, a non-profit, public-private partnership, was established in 2002 to save the lives and property of people at risk from natural disasters, accidents and terrorism by improving the nation’s alert and warning capabilities. As the only national organization dedicated to public warning, PPW provided an objective, consensus-based forum where all interested stakeholders – public and private – could work together to develop processes, standards, systems and strategies to ensure that the right people have the right information at the right time.

STATUS OF PPW AND WEBSITE

The Board of Trustees of the Partnership for Public Warning announced on March 21, 2005 that the Partnership has been dissolved. The Board wishes to express its thanks to all the organizations and individuals who worked with the Partnership to improve America’s public warning capability.

The MITRE Corporation will maintain public access to the Partnership for Public Warning (PPW) website. The site was scheduled to be discontinued effective the end of May 2005 following PPW's dissolution in March 2005. However, a number of persons involved in emergency management have noted that this site is one of the best single sources of information on public warning, and expressed concern about the loss of access to this material. As one of PPW's founding members, and a corporation chartered in the public interest, MITRE has decided that the value of the archival information and other resources available through the site warrant preservation. The site will be maintained independently of MITRE's own public website. MITRE will periodically add to the site access to some of the current literature and developments relevant to the public warning community. Items made obsolete by PPW's dissolution will be deleted from the site. Apart from these measures, the website will essentially remain frozen in its present state.
